The project incorporates various slope, drainage and pavement sites on state-controlled roads across the City of Gold Coast and Scenic Rim Regional Council areas.
Covering a large area, the work locations include Gold Coast–Springbrook Road, Lamington National Park Road, Beechmont Road, and Tamborine Mountain Road.
Project Engineer Shaun Luke has just finished work on the Toowoomba Flood Recovery works on local roads and is now the lead engineer on the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim reconstruction projects.
“Over the past few years our team has built a strong reputation for the delivery of reconstruction works following significant natural disasters and high rainfall events. These works are often in remote locations and on narrow and steep inclines. The aim is to bring our expertise and previous experience in the Toowoomba region to the current projects,” shared Shaun.
The steep terrain and narrow road widths add to the complexity of the current projects. Shaun explains, “Work has commenced at several sites working to stabilise the slopes. Some of these areas are very steep and our team is working from rope systems to install six metre nails as part of the stabilisation process.”

Queensland experiences high rainfall, which has been particularly severe over the last decade. This combination of natural impacts has led to an increase in damage across road networks.
The recovery works are jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery and Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
