This achievement marks the culmination of a four-month process from concept to delivery, involving complex over-water works, precision engineering, and tight installation tolerances. Both platforms were lifted and installed seamlessly on the first attempt — a fantastic result reflecting the high level of planning and execution by the team.
The team has recently achieved a series of back-to-back milestones across the Hexham Straight Widening Project, marking significant progress on multiple fronts:
- Zone 5 (Northern Medians) is now complete and open to traffic.
- Basecourse concrete pavements have been completed at the Gas Bridge.
- Girders have been placed on the northbound bridge, span 5.
- Formwork, reinforcement and pouring (FRP) works are progressing well, with the abutments completed and approach slabs and deck 5 now underway.
- Major sign structures have been successfully installed.

Finishing works across Zones 1 and 3 continue, with asphalt paving, guard rail installation, concrete works, and landscaping all advancing steadily.
Georgiou Project Manager Luke Weller says, “These milestones reflect the strong momentum across the project as we move closer to delivering a safer and more efficient corridor for the 50,000 motorists who rely on this route daily. Massive thanks to the team for all for the efforts put in and works undertaken around the clock!”

The Hexham Straight upgrade involves widening the section of Maitland Road between the Newcastle Inner City Bypass and Hexham Bridge to improve safety and traffic flow for the 50,000 motorists who use this road daily.”
The Hexham Straight Widening Project is being delivered by Alliance partners Georgiou, Daracon, SMEC and Transport for NSW. The project is on track to open to traffic in 2026.
