Georgiou Group’s DFO Perth project has taken home its first national award at the recent Australian Institute of Building Awards.

Tying with Multiplex, Hansen Yucken, Watpac Construction and Lendlease in the Commercial Construction ($50 million plus) category, DFO Perth edged its way into joint first place thanks to its innovative approach to safety.

With more than 42,000 manhours worked on site, Georgiou developed and implemented a robust online induction system (the DFO Subcontractor Portal) which enabled all subcontractors to upload necessary documentation and complete their safety induction online prior to setting foot on site. The portal generated an ID card with a unique QR code for every subcontractor which tracked subcontractor movements, length of time on site and, in the event of an emergency, who was currently working on the project.

The project also featured complex steel frame erection which saw the team construct the 350m by 150m sub-frame from the two ends towards the centre to meet the programme.

Georgiou’s Mandurah Bridge Replacement also snagged a High Commendation in the Infrastructure category to bring home the project’s eighth accolade in two years.
