Georgiou Group – as part of the Tonkin Gap Alliance – has been named preferred proponent to build the Tonkin Gap project in Perth’s east in WA.

The alliance – which comprises Non Owners Participants Georgiou, BMD, WA Limestone, BG&E and GHD, and partner Golder – will work with Main Roads (MRWA) and the Public Transport Authority (PTA) to deliver the project which will alleviate a major bottleneck on Tonkin Highway between Morley and Redcliffe.

Scope of work involves the upgrading a section of road between Collier Road and Dunreath Drive to a three-lane, freeway-standard road used by more than 120,000 vehicles daily.

The project also includes new interchanges at Guildford Road and Great Eastern Highway and new bridge structures over the Swan River (Redcliffe Bridge) and Guildford Road. Cyclists and pedestrians will also benefit from a new Principal Shared Path and pedestrian bridge.

Rob Monaci, CEO of Georgiou Group, said: “We are delighted to be contributing to this landmark project which will support the Government’s METRONET project, while working alongside existing clients MRWA and PTA.

“Our expert teams have years of experience and in-depth knowledge in delivering complex infrastructure projects across the State. We look forward to building our working relationship – not only with our dual clients – but our partners and deliver another great project for the WA community.”

Works are due to commence in 2020 with completion scheduled for 2023.

Georgiou is currently delivering a number of projects for Main Roads including the Karel Avenue Upgrade, Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange Project and High Street Upgrade.
