GEORGIOU BUILDS ON BRIDGE PORTFOLIO

Georgiou has secured the coveted $51.8 million Old Mandurah Traffic Bridge Replacement project.

Awarded by Main Roads WA, scope of works include the decommissioning of the existing bridge and the design and construction of a new bridge over the Mandurah Estuary, including associated roadworks, public amenities and infrastructure.

CEO John Georgiou said a focus for Georgiou over the past 12 months had been to solidify the company’s roadworks and bridge capability.

“In 2015, we were awarded the $65 million Reid Highway Upgrade, $47 million Aubin Grove Train Station and $24 million Russell Road Bridge. Our strategy was to capitalise on the work we delivered for Gateway WA and really establish a reputation as one of WA’s premier constructors of public infrastructure,” Mr Georgiou said.

“This latest award is a credit to our extremely talented team who will work closely with Main Roads to deliver this project on time and on budget.”

A key component to Georgiou’s tender was to retain sections of the old bridge to build platforms beneath the new bridge for use by the community for fishing.

“On every project we deliver, we aim to minimise the impact we have on the community and leave a lasting legacy for local residents. By incorporating sections of the existing bridge into the new design, we feel we will achieve this and leave behind something the residents can really enjoy,” Mr Georgiou continued.

The bridge will improve vehicular capacity with two traffic lanes in each direction and safety for pedestrians and cyclists with separate, wider facilities over the bridge.

Georgiou will now move through a detailed design development and construction management planning phase before commencing work at the end of the first quarter of 2016.

Construction will be complete in late 2017, with peak personnel of 60.
