Georgiou Group has been named as the preferred proponent to deliver much-needed upgrades to the Leach Highway and Welshpool Road intersection, in an alliance with Main Roads WA, BG&E and Golder Associates.

The project, valued at $93 million, involves construction of a new bridge taking Leach Highway over Welshpool Road to create a grade-separated interchange, duplication of the existing Leach Highway bridge over rail and a new shared path along Leach Highway from Sevenoaks Street to Orrong Road.

Georgiou Group Engineering General Manager Simon Welfare said the company was thrilled to be partnering with Main Roads WA, BG&E and Golder Associates on the project.

“Georgiou has successfully delivered a number of large infrastructure projects for Main Roads WA over the past 40 years and a key to the delivery of some of these projects – notably Mandurah Bridge Replacement and Gateway WA – has been in partnership with BG&E,” he explained.

“Additionally, there is strong synergy between Georgiou, BG&E and Golder Associates, so we look forward to bringing our experienced team and strong capability together to improve the safety and efficiency of this intersection, while also reducing travel times on the local road network.

“We’re thrilled to be named preferred on this project. Not only will the project create more than 600 local jobs, but it’s great for a local, Australian alliance to deliver infrastructure for Australians.”

The team will now enter into the alliance development agreement phase prior to formal award in December 2020 and mobilisation in early 2021.

In WA, Georgiou’s infrastructure business is currently delivering the Karel Avenue Upgrade, High Street Upgrade, Roe Highway and Kalamunda Road Interchange and Tonkin Gap Alliance project.
