Georgiou Group – in joint venture with BMD Constructions – has been named preferred proponent on the $215 million Mitchell Freeway Extension contract for repeat client, Main Roads WA.

Scope of works involves extending the Mitchell Freeway 5.6 kilometres from Hester Avenue in Clarkson to Romeo Road in Alkimos.

“The award of this project is a culmination of years of hard work – both in building on our capable and experienced team and continuing to successfully deliver road and bridge projects across the country,” explained Georgiou General Manager Engineering, Simon Welfare.

“This is the second project Georgiou has secured in partnership with BMD (the other is Tonkin Gap) and it’s contracts like this that bring all our skills into the mix to benefit our client. We look forward to further building on our partnership with both BMD and Main Roads to successfully deliver this important project.”

BMD Constructions Operations Manager – Western Australia, Leon Fogliani said, “We are very proud to have been selected to deliver this vital piece of infrastructure with fellow Australian owned contractor, Georgiou Group.

“Having completed several freeway widening projects over the past three years, I am confident these recent successes combined with our collaborative approach to contracting will ensure the project is a success for Main Roads Western Australia and the people of Perth.”

The extension will alleviate pressure on the local road network, reducing travel times and improving safety and connectivity for commuters and the local community.

Work, which will see around 200 peak personnel, will commence in November with an expected completion of October 2022.
