Georgiou has commenced works on Stage 2 of the Warrego Highway duplication between Toowoomba and Oakey, valued at $160 million.

Located on Toowoomba’s western outskirts between Charlton and Kingsthorpe, the project involves duplication of the Warrego Highway from Leesons Road to just west of the intersection with Kingsthorpe-Haden Road.

Scope of works involves construction of a new two-lane road parallel to the existing Warrego Highway with the new road serving as the eastbound lanes.

Chief Executive Officer John Georgiou said the company was delighted to be awarded the project on the back of a successful 2016.

“Our focus in 2016 was to build our reputation in the transport market through the successful delivery of transport projects across the East Coast of Australia,” he said.

“Having successfully delivered the Paradise Road Safety Upgrade in 2016 for the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and with another three projects set to finish mid-year, we’re on track to reach record revenue in Queensland.

“The award of this project solidifies our presence in Queensland and further builds on our reputation as a quality roads contractor in Australia.”

The project will improve motorist safety and capacity of the highway by providing separation between opposing traffic streams, intersection upgrades and new turning lanes to provide safe turning opportunities.

Works are scheduled for completion in February 2018. An average of 250 direct jobs will be supported over the life of the project.
