Georgiou was awarded the $61 million Liv Apartments Development project for Defence Housing Australia in September 2016.

Located in Fremantle WA, the development includes 166 one, two and three bedroom apartments together with associated private basement car parking across three split levels.

A former run-down caryard, the site was remodelled into an attractive, modern, 166 apartment complex with 1,300m2 of commercial space, as well as landscaped courtyards and public open spaces to add diversity and character to the local area.

Scopes of work included geotechnical investigation; structural survey; underpinning of neighbouring buildings; redesign and installation of 588 CFA 500dia at 9-metre long for double basement retaining structure; bulk excavation of 19,000m3 of limestone rock including access ramps; capping beam; and shotcrete.

The Liv Apartments project invested heavily in environmental, energy and water saving initiatives intended to reduce household bills, waste and energy consumption. These included solar panels, edible gardens, landscape irrigation, a waste reduction strategy, energy saving ceiling fans and a public plaza space with lawn. The project also utilised a number of recycling measures in its structure, such as recycled timber and bricks from the original worksite.

Liv Apartments is the first apartment development in Western Australia to be registered in the One Planet Living program – one of fewer than 20 worldwide.

The apartments currently house Department of Defence families stationed in WA, with the balance of apartments available for sale to private owners and investors.
