Principal Cycle Network upgrades awarded to Georgiou

Tuesday 11, April 2017

Georgiou has been awarded a $4.2 million project to build dedicated bike lanes on two Gold Coast bridges will help improve safety for all road users.

Main Roads and Road Safety Minister Mark Bailey said the cycle lane upgrades on Southport–Burleigh Road (Bermuda Street section) are part of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to the Principal Cycle Network.

“Cyclists are currently competing with motorists for space while crossing Lake Intrepid and Lake Orr bridges,” Mr Bailey said.

“The speed limit is 80km/h per hour and these upgrades, which will create a dedicated cycle lane across both bridges, will allow cyclists to ride in safety.

“Works are expected to begin later this month and include the widening of the bridges in the southbound direction. The road shoulders will also be widened to align with the bridges. We are building the safest environment possible for cyclists and motorists, while improving connectivity to the remainder of the Principal Cycling Network on Southport–Burleigh Road.”

Mr Bailey said Georgiou Group would build the dedicated lanes, with the project expected to take three months to complete, weather permitting.

The Principal Cycle Network connects residential areas with employment nodes such as suburban centres, industrial precincts, education facilities, and shopping and entertainment destinations.

Georgiou secures third Lithium contract in WA

Monday 10, April 2017

Georgiou Group will play a key role on the Tianqi Lithium Australia Pty Ltd (Tianqi) Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant Project in Kwinana, after today being awarded a $17 million contract by MSP Engineering (MSPE).

After a successful Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process, Georgiou has been awarded the design and construct contract to build Tianqi’s new southern hemisphere headquarters.

This is the third contract Georgiou has secured on this project after being awarded the forward works contract in September 2016 and the concrete works contract in early 2017. The value of both these contracts is approximately $15 million.

Georgiou Group CEO John Georgiou said the contract involves the construction of a new office, training, security, warehouse storage, laboratory and control room buildings.

“The buildings will include key features drawn from the Chinese Feng Shui,” he said. “The new control room building is a critical part of the whole project and will control all elements of the lithium processing plant.”

Mr Georgiou said the company had worked hard over the past nine months to convert the tender and a key to its success was the collaborative and close working relationship that had been established with MSP Engineering.

“After successfully delivering the forward works contract, Georgiou is thrilled to again be working alongside Tianqi Lithium Australia Pty Ltd and MSPE to deliver this landmark project and we look forward to playing a part in changing the landscape of manufacturing and construction in WA.”

Construction, which will employ approximately 110 workers at peak, will commence in April 2017 with an expected completion in March 2018.

The Group, who celebrate 40 years as a business in August, are currently delivering the multi-storey PrimeHouse Office Development in Joondalup for Primewest, LIV Apartments in Fremantle for Defence Housing Australia’s and a new headquarters and training facility in Belmont for the Construction Training Fund.
