Last week, Georgiou was invited to the official opening of the Ricky Grace Girls Academy at Balga Senior High School, which will take place in their recently renovated library space.

As part of Georgiou’s partnership with Balga Senior High School through our Reconciliation Action Plan, our Building team donated the time of their best project managers and subcontractors in February to renovate the school’s library which will now be utilised for The Girls Academy.

Now renovated, His Excellency General the Hon. Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia and Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove were invited to officially open the space which will see ex-Wildcats player Ricky Grace and his team work with Year 10-12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls to provide support to engage in school and pursue their goals.

The Girls Academy is the flagship program for Role Models and Leaders Australia, a not-for-profit charitable organisation founded to invest in educational support programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls.

“The Girls Academy has a proven track record of improving attendance, engagement, completion of high school and transition into post school destinations,” said Balga SHS Principal Geoff Harris.

“I would like to acknowledge the Georgiou Building Group for their ethos in supporting community and Balga Senior High School, in assisting to refurbish the Girls Academy room.”

It took three weekends and a large group of volunteers to demolish and rebuild this section of the school library, transforming the area from a simple storage space to a vibrant learning area.

Georgiou has been working closely with Balga Senior High School since 2014, and has donated more than $60,000 in funding and in-kind donations for their girls’ netball program.
