FINAL TOUCHES COMPLETE ON SAFER, SMOOTHER TINANA INTERCHANGE

Georgiou’s Queensland team has completed the final works on the $38 million Tinana Interchange Upgrade for client, Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).

The 14-month project included the construction of a northbound off-ramp (including demolition of existing bridge overpass); the relocation of the Three Mile Road intersection about 300 metres south of its current location; removing the southbound off-ramp to Gympie Road; and upgrade of the existing southbound on-ramp and incorporation of a wide centre line treatment to provide greater separation of opposing directions of traffic.

Federal Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Darren Chester said he was pleased to see the finishing touches on the project complete, with the upgrade set to benefit thousands of motorists.

“Today’s formal completion is an important step towards delivering a safer, more efficient Bruce Highway for motorists and industry throughout Queensland,” he said.

“We are contributing $6.7 billion to the joint $8.5 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade Programme to build a better, safer highway and this new interchange is just one of the improvements making a difference to motorists.”

Since the opening of the new interchange last month, Georgiou has completed final works on the road surface, as well as landscaping, installing guard rails and removing the temporary side track connections with the team now demobilised from site.

The project, located on Bruce Highway approximately 5km southwest of Maryborough, services more than 11,000 motorists daily and is a notorious accident blackspot in the area.
