The students at Balga Senior High School got a great surprise when they returned to school this year with their library transformed, thanks to Georgiou Group and local subcontractors.

As part of Georgiou’s partnership with Balga Senior High School through their Reconciliation Action Plan, the company’s building arm donated the time of their best project managers and subcontractors to renovate the library space for future learning.

Chief Executive Officer John Georgiou said the company is committed to engaging within the community to strengthen relationships with Indigenous Australians, demonstrate respect and provide mutually beneficial opportunities.

“Since 2014 Georgiou has worked closely with Balga Senior High School, donating more than $60,000 in funding and in-kind donations for their girls’ netball program,” he explained. “Through discussions with Principal Geoff Harris, we realised more could be done so our building team volunteered over three weekends to demolish and rebuild a section of their school library, transforming the area from a storage space to a learning area for young girls.

“This could not have been possible without our loyal subcontractors who have donated their labour and supplies to rebuild the space. We pride ourselves on working with the best in the industry and these companies, and their ability to give back, are shining examples of this. For us, the benefit lies in supporting a great community cause that aligns with our internal company values of teamwork and pride.”

Balga Senior High School principal Geoff Harris said the new space will provide a workshop and welcome room for our Year 10-12 Girls Academy and a refurbished office and workspace for our Library Officer.

“Balga Senior High School is a 46-year-old facility and with new developments in education and technology, the ability to transform old spaces to useful new ones can be quite challenging,” he said. “Georgiou and their subcontractors have made it happen for us and we are extremely appreciative of the significant contribution given to this project. The girls in the Academy love the new room; a fresh, new welcoming space creating a positive spirit to the program.”

ANWEST, DNA Painting, Double Glazing Australasia, Antry, Johnson and Co, RNM Solutions, Carpet Choice Joondalup, Spence Doors, Preferred Tiling, CNS Interiors, Shamrock Electrical, TC Surveys, Peter Hunt Architects, Dulux and Instant Bins were all pivotal in the renovation.
