Georgiou Group Chief Executive Officer Rob Monaci says the company proudly supports the Uluru Statement.

The Uluru Statement from the Heart is a national Indigenous statement on constitutional recognition that came out of the First Nations National Constitutional Convention in May 2017.

The statement was issued on behalf of First Nations peoples and is an incredibly personal and important proclamation to the Governments and peoples of Australia, seeking three actions:

  • Constitutional reforms to empower our people and take a rightful place in our own country.
  • The establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution.
  • A Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making between governments and First Nations and truth-telling about our history.

Mr Monaci said Georgiou – the first construction company to have their Reconciliation Action Plan officially endorsed by Reconciliation Australia in 2011 – has worked tirelessly over the past eight years to partner with Indigenous companies in an effort to ‘walk together as equals’.

“Every company in Australia has an opportunity to bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and empower future generations to have their voices heard and be recognised for their contribution,” he explains.

“Regardless of our size, we have a responsibility to do what we can now to fix some of the mistakes we’ve made in our history and this starts with respect, strong relationships and pledging our support to this important statement.”
