GEORGIOU’S SKYBRIDGE PROJECT TAKES TO THE SKIES IN LATEST MILESTONE

Our Perth Airport (PAPL) Skybridge Project team in WA has reached a key milestone, with crane lifts of major components now underway.

The $31 million modular bridge will be installed in sections, with crane lifts required to hoist the 12 main components into place.

The first and largest module was lifted into place by the biggest crane in Perth last month, taking the team just 20 minutes to lift the 35-metre (83 tonne) module into place.

“The first module was lifted into place in mid-June after months of planning and preparation,” said Georgiou General Manager Steve Okill.

“It’s an exciting time for our team and great to see the culmination of Georgiou’s planning and hard work come to fruition.”

When all lifts are completed, expected by late July, work will begin on the Skybridge’s internal and external fit-out which will see personnel on the project peak to 70.

“About 2,000 jobs have been created on this project alone, with more than 800 people currently employed, and 70 jobs created as part of the Skybridge project,” said Premier the Hon. Mark McGowan.

“It provides a crucial link and complements our METRONET plans, and I am pleased to see it underway and progressing to plan.

Minister for Transport the Hon. Rita Saffioti continues, “The experience people have when connecting from the airport to the station is very important.”

“This bridge will enable convenient, comfortable and efficient links between the station and Terminals 1 and 2.

“At completion of this project, public transport access to Perth Airport will be comparable to other major tourism destinations across the globe that provide visitors with cost-effective and simple access between the city and airport.”
