On 5 December, the overpass at Kingsthorpe–Haden Road and Gowrie Mountain School Road in QLD was officially opened for public use after 9 months of hard work by our QLD project team.

Motorists travelling west on Warrego Highway can now access Kingsthorpe by turning left at the temporary Gowrie Mountain School Road intersection and travelling around the roundabout and over the new overpass to the Kingsthorpe-Haden Road.

Project Manager Kieren Walters said the team is now focusing on the movement of Gowrie Mountain School Road intersection to line up with this new section of the highway.

“Right now we’re completing the surfacing layer on the existing alignment,” he explained.

“Our next traffic switch is planned for the end of December to allow traffic on both carriageways.”

The new overpass and closing of the Kingsthorpe-Haden Road right turn access will make it safer for motorists wishing to access the Warrego Highway from Kingsthorpe and help prevent excessive traffic queues along Warrego Highway.

The overpass is part of the $160M Toowoomba – Oakey Duplication Stage 2 (Leesons Road to Kingsthorpe) project and is one of 15 approved projects in the $635M Warrego Highway Upgrade Program.

Georgiou is currently on track to complete the project in early-mid 2018.
