In June 2014, Georgiou commenced work on the $13 million City Beach Redevelopment project, replacing the outdated surf club facility with a new gymnasium, administration area and bar facilities.

Scope of works included:

  • construction of a new surf lifesaving building;
  • three restaurants providing a variety of dining options;
  • construction of new roads; and
  • extensive shaded and landscaped recreational spaces.

The building incorporates grass-topped roofs and viewing towers accessible to the public, more than $3 million of hard and soft landscaping – including the relocation of several mature pine trees – with extensive open pathways, public plazas, an amphitheatre, precast concrete feature wall panels and high quality finishes throughout.

The commercial tenancies are currently leased to private restaurant and retail businesses, and provide a much-needed vibrant social hub on the beach front.
