In April 2015, Georgiou was awarded an $8 million contract to construct an extension to the Essendon Fields Auto Centro subdivision development on airport land in Victoria.

Scope of work for the Essendon Fields Auto Centro industrial subdivision included:

  • construction of 32,000m2 of pavements, including slip lanes and connections to Tullamarine Freeway;
  • 50,000m3 of bulk earthworks;
  • installation of over 1,100 metres of water and 740 metres of sewer reticulation; and
  • installation and connection of more than 2,000 metres of stormwater drainage, as well as retention basins, underground retention tanks and gross pollutant traps.

Challenges included overcoming drainage outfall issues on site, working to a tight delivery program, and the interface and management of residents, adjacent businesses and other project stakeholders such as VicRoads. The project team worked closely with the client to develop a cost effective solution to the drainage outfall on site, as well as a number of other design issues to ensure value for money and no delays to the construction program.
