Georgiou has delivered the Southport-Burleigh Road Upgrade for the Department of Transport and Main Roads, creating three traffic lanes in each direction.
Southport-Burleigh Road, locally known as Bermuda Street, is a major north–south arterial road that runs roughly parallel to, and between, the Gold Coast Highway and Pacific Motorway.
The Southport-Burleigh Road Network Improvement Project was delivered in three separate work packages. The Central Section – Vespa Crescent to Monaco Street Bridge, also known as the Bundall Road package, was delivered by Georgiou in 2017.
The Southport-Burleigh Road Upgrade involved upgrading four lanes to six lanes by removing on street parking and constructing a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI).
Detailed scope of works included:
- roadworks: 1.3km of roadworks including 8,500 tonne asphalt; construction of 1,300 m3 pavement, installation of 13km of drainage (stormwater pipe), roadside furniture, lighting and traffic signals;
- bridgeworks: including the widening of both the Nerang River Bridge and the Monaco Street Bridge;
- relocation of Public Utility Plant (PUP) and live services including Energex, Telstra, Gold Coast Water and APA Gas mains;
- construction of the new CFI at the Bundall Road, Ashmore Road and Salerno Street intersection with associated electrical and traffic signal works;
- widening of Bundall Road from four lanes to six lanes in both directions;
- upgrading pedestrian and bicycle access, including the construction of a shared off-road cycle and pedestrian pathway along the eastern side through to Nerang River Bridge.
- upgrading public transport infrastructure including two new bus stops;
- vegetation clearing and trimming; and
- construction of two new U-turn facilities for both north and southbound traffic.
