Georgiou will play a key role on the Tianqi Lithium Australia Pty Ltd (Tianqi) Lithium Hydroxide Processing Plant Project in Kwinana, after today being awarded a $17 million contract by MSP Engineering (MSPE).

After a successful Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) process, Georgiou has been awarded the design and construct contract to build Tianqi’s new southern hemisphere headquarters.

This is the third contract Georgiou has secured on this project after being awarded the forward works contract in September 2016 and the concrete works contract in early 2017. The value of both these contracts is approximately $15 million.

Georgiou Group CEO John Georgiou said the contract involves the construction of a new office, training, security, warehouse storage, laboratory and control room buildings.

“The buildings will include key features drawn from the Chinese Feng Shui,” he said. “The new control room building is a critical part of the whole project and will control all elements of the lithium processing plant.”

Mr Georgiou said the company had worked hard over the past nine months to convert the tender and a key to its success was the collaborative and close working relationship that had been established with MSP Engineering.

“After successfully delivering the forward works contract, Georgiou is thrilled to again be working alongside Tianqi Lithium Australia Pty Ltd and MSPE to deliver this landmark project and we look forward to playing a part in changing the landscape of manufacturing and construction in WA.”

Construction, which will employ approximately 110 workers at peak, will commence in April 2017 with an expected completion in March 2018.
