Georgiou is continuing to strengthen its Queensland operations with the award of a second Southport-Burleigh Road contract, valued at $18.5 million.

Awarded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), Georgiou will construct a third traffic lane in each direction by removing the on-street parking, while constructing a shared off-road cycle and pedestrian pathway and a Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) upgrade.

The innovative CFI solution, designed by the Department, will address traffic congestion and provide an additional access to Surfers Paradise from the south.

General Manager Queensland Gary Georgiou said the latest contract win demonstrates Georgiou’s roadworks capability in the state.

“A key focus of our growth strategy in Queensland is to build our reputation as a quality roads contractor while building on our relationships with key clients such as TMR,” said Mr Georgiou.

“We have a strong track record across Australia for delivering large-scale road projects critical to each State’s road network and this latest win will ensure we continue to build vital public infrastructure for the Queensland community.”

The project, which will see 120 personnel at peak, is due for completion in late 2017 and will see Georgiou continue work on Southport-Burleigh Road from Vespa Crescent in Bundall through to the Monaco Street Bridge in Sorrento.
